Storage tanks are structures designed for storing bulk materials such as powders, granules, aggregates, mineral raw materials, fertilizers, and grains.
They ensure controlled storage conditions, protect the material from moisture and contamination, and enable easy and safe unloading of the raw material for further stages of the technological process.
Silos are available in a variety of capacities and configurations, allowing them to be tailored to the individual needs of the user.
They can be designed for simple storage applications as well as for use in complex industrial processes where strict safety standards must be met. For the storage of dusty materials or raw materials that can form explosive atmospheres (ATEX) when mixed with air, silos are designed in accordance with European standards and equipped with explosion relief systems such as decompression panels or explosion suppression systems.
Silos can be loaded in various ways:
- gravitational – directly from installations or transfer devices, using bucket conveyors that transport material to great heights,
- pneumatic, most often used for deliveries from tank trucks or from the plant’s pneumatic transport systems.
When unloading from tank trucks, if equipment subject to Transport Technical Supervision (TDT) is required, complete unloading stations are designed to meet all formal and safety requirements.
Construction
There are two main types of silo support structures:
- Drive-through – enabling gravity loading of tankers, trucks, or rail cars,
- Non-drive-through – used where loading takes place directly into production lines or in limited plant space.
