Weighing is the process of precisely measuring the mass of raw materials, intermediates or finished products, forming the foundation for maintaining production quality and repeatability.
It is carried out at various points of the installation — from material intake, through dosing into mixers, to final packaging. Depending on the material and process requirements, different technologies are used: hopper scales (gravimetric batch weighing), belt scales (monitoring the mass flow of material in motion), or loss-in-weight systems (continuous high-precision dosing).
Weighing systems may be single- or multi-stage, often integrated with macro and micro-dosing units, allowing the combination of large quantities of raw material with very small additive doses.
A crucial aspect is full integration with automation — weighing data is transmitted to control systems (PLC, SCADA) and higher-level systems (MES, ERP), enabling recipe management, consumption reporting and full material traceability.
These devices constitute an essential part of process infrastructure across many industrial plants, influencing efficiency, safety and overall production quality, particularly in systems requiring precise and clean handling of bulk materials.
